Can someone tell me what Tom Hall changed?  Did he edit for grammar or content?  Or did he change everything so that none of the words are Rikard's?  Censorship is the first step to the loss of your freedom.

“If this nation is to be wise as well as strong, if we are to achieve our destiny, then we need more new ideas for more wise men reading more good books in more public libraries. These libraries should be open to all—except the censor. We must know all the facts and hear all the alternatives and listen to all the criticisms. Let us welcome controversial books and controversial authors. For the Bill of Rights is the guardian of our security as well as our liberty.”

 John Fitzgerald Kennedy

“Pontius Pilate was the first great censor and Jesus Christ the first great victim of censorship”

 Ben Lindsey

“If in other lands the press and books and literature of all kinds are censored, we must redouble our efforts here to keep them free”

 Franklin D. Roosevelt

“By placing discretion in the hands of an official to grant or deny a license, such a statute creates a threat of censorship that by its very existence chills free speech.”

Mike,

Don't confuse the rights of a U.S Citizen with the rules of this forum. Two totally different things.

I think this line from the forum rules should answer your question,
The CLC reserves the right to delete or edit any message for any reason

I agree but what was changed?  Tom seems to edit comments for no reason.  Last I check our dues paid for this forum so I think we deserve to know what is so bad that Tom needs to edit post all the time?   I've lost confidence in this board having  unbiased moderators because of Tom's actions.   I'm not asking that he not edit for reasonable problems but let us know what is Tom and what is the poster.

PS Might I suggest this be split from the original topic?

Tom has asked that we take this private.  I  would rather this be discussed openly as other CLC members have emailed me asking the same questions about Tom.

The answer lies in "Forum Tips and Help", a thread titled "Reply with Quote", as well some e-mail between Mr. Stamps and
me some weeks ago.  Anyway, Rikard got an e-mail explaining the reason for the edit.  So did three other men in the last
few days, and they were kind enough to acknowledge by e-mail to me, with thanks for advice on how to post replies.

Michael, which "other CLC members" in particular (I note the plural in your message above, so
Rikard isn't the only one?) have e-mailed you to ask that you be their advocate?  Why don't
they just make their own cases?

Your statement about your "loss of confidence in this board having unbiased moderators" is
disingenuous to the extent that I sent you three e-mails on July 24 that clearly explained my
editing and the reason for it.  You, at least, have known since then what I'm doing.

Unbiased moderators?  We make no such guarantee here.  Probably all moderators have
biases.

I'll bet you occasionally deleted a message entirely when you were a moderator here a year ago.

There is no "right" to post anything here, any more than there is a "right" to have your
letter published in a magazine over the objection of its editor.  There is certainly no "right"
to repeat verbatim what someone else has just written in a thread.

Please convey to the "other CLC members" who e-mailed you that they need to use the
"reply" button for the vast majority of their responses on this web site, otherwise the pink
boxes they create by misusing "reply with quote", and all the unnecessary verbiage they
republish inside them, will be removed without advance notice.

Sorry Stampie,

Even though I sympathize with you to a certain extent, I recognize that this forum is a private operation and can be run as its operators deem appropriate. South Paw was correct when he pointed out that freedom of speech applies only when it's the government doing the censorship.

I was mildly annoyed when Tom deleted a photo of a girl in a bikini on the hood of a '56 Caddy in front of that guy's store in L.A. because somebody complained. I even replied with sarcasm about us (the forum readers) being treated like children. My post was also deleted but I understand that it's not my forum and the administrators may run it as they see fit.

Again, as an avid reader and sometimes contributor to this forum, I understand where Tom is coming from. There are thousands of forums and newsgroups on the web that aren't moderated and where virtually anything goes. I appreciate this forum for it's vast knowledge base and because the threads usually stay on topic. Many other forums have no such organization.

That's my 2 cents.

Hello all,

To set the record straight, I was the one that deleted the photo from the Corrente thread.  I received a complaint about the photo so it was removed.  I thought I had made a note in the post regarding my actions, but perhaps I am mistaken about that.

To further set something straight, ALL the Moderators received a reporting email regarding the photo issue from a member at large.  In such email, it was stated that the reporter did not feel that a club and message board of OUR calibre should or would allow such a photo to be published on OUR board.  Furthermore, as a father and husband, and as a MEMBER of a club that ACTIVELY PROMOTES family involvement, HE did not feel it was appropriate for OUR organization to allow it.  Hence, it was removed.  I did not catch it and did not check the Board for activity, so I didn't get it in time.  Otherwise, I'd be the culprit.

In a perfect world, there would be no need for "censorship".  Sadly, WE do not live in that Utopia.  Thankfully, the National Board saw a need for a website that allows this Message Board and also saw a need for it to be moderated.  There are not very many Moderators and I, personally, have let some things go that I felt were questionable.  We hash things out, collaborate, compromise and reach conclusions.  In the end, we do trust that we have bettered the club as a whole to quell confrontation and maintain the course that OUR club foresaw when this Board was initiated.  This is unique to OUR organization and maintains the mission of the CLC.

Why not quote Ramses--(Yul Brenner) "SO IT IS WRITTEN.  SO IT IS DONE."
