1946 or 1947 Series 62 Coupe??
« on: February 05, 2010, 07:10:48 AM »
I was hoping someone could tell me the difference between a 46 and 47 Coupe. I was also wondering which of the two you all preferred and why.
Thanks very much

Subtle differences,
"Cadillac" in script versus block lettering on the fenders for '47, Sombrero caps were new for '47, trunk emblem was a "V" with crest on '46, more of a horizontal wing w/crest for '47, grille bars a bit different between the 2. the '47 had chrome finishers on the floor carpeting at the steering column. Probably a bit more changes such as colors.
Plus the '46 is much more rare.
I enjoyed my '47 until I sold it a few months ago...

Domer,

I'm surprised you haven't seen Yann's Cadillac Database. He post's on this site as Veesixteen.  He is the unofficial Cadillac historian. You can find photos and descriptions of every model Cadillac on his site as well as history, etc.

Click on the link on the home page that says Photo Pages then pick the year you want to see.

Dominique,

From a visual style decision, both are identica;, so if you are looking for an example of the pre fin Sedanette, there is no difference. As noted, the 46 is rarer but in the context of whether that effects a decision - it's irrelvent.

For example, if a 46 and 47, identical - were being sold and the 46 owner wanted $2000 more because of rarity - I would say get the 47. It will deliver the same old car owning experience.

As a Buick owner, I am a bit envious of this "sameness" for Cadillac 46-47. The 46 Buick Roadmaster 2 door Sedanette has a nice flush bar grille which I prefer. The 47-48 Buick's had bulging pop art bar grilles which I can't get excited about. I am kind of stuck looking for a 46 Buick, whereas the 46-47 Cadillac can be purchased in either year.

Given the relatively low numbers of the 46-47 Cadillac 61/62 Sedanettes, it's a good thing there weren't a lot of differences.
