There may be cheap ones out there, however rebuilds will usually go out again sooner than the original low mileage one, and rebuilds have a zillion times the mileage.  They are not overhauled, and are rebuilds (meaning only the bad part was replaced and all other parts are still in there) that still have worn parts and can be noisy with excessive play in the steering, etc.  Although they may have  a warranty who wants to exchange a cheaper box and replace it over and over when the other parts inside soon fail.  Original handling and quiet reliable driving ride is my main concern.

Beg to differ with you.  I have replaced several low mileage boxes that leaked with Cardone rebuilts and have never had a problem with them.  There were three steering boxes from, I believe 1966 through 1976. 1 for the Eldorado with one tuurning ratio, a swcond for ALL standard cars, and a thrid for the Commercial chassis/Limos.
The commercial box steers slower and the Eldo box steers fastest.  The problem with the rebguilders is that you never know what ratio you are going to get.  What I have done is order the box and when it comes check the ratio by comparing the input turns to the output turns.  The only box I have turned down was a commercial box, but when I returned it the next one was correct.
By the way, I do believe that a whole bunch of other cars used the same box for a number of years.

I have restored a lot of Cadillacs and had many problems with rebuilds being noisy, leaking, gear ratio, unless I rebuild or inspect them myself.  I rebuilt my first one back in 1981 when I was only 17.  I was trained by a GM Cadillac Dealership Mechanic at the dealership who worked in heavy line and other departments for over 35 years from 1959 to 1994.  I'm only trying to keep the vehicle as original as possible without any substandard outside rebuilt parts unless inspected and rebuilt by Cadillac factory trained personell from that time period.  The rebuilds just don't last long enough.  I really doubt you drive your vehicles as much as I do to really put them to the test for original quality performance satisfaction and longevity.  I find most newer Cadillac enthusiasts don't really know how quiet these cars used to actually run.  I would rather fix a leak in a box than have to find all new hard parts by the way.

Dave,
Are you then saying that you are guaranteeing that this steering box to be leak free and will function for an extended period?
