41 Engine Question
« on: February 07, 2010, 04:03:05 PM »
I am afraid I may already know the answer to this question, but if someone out there knows a better way I might not have to take the engine out.   Absolutely no coolant drains after removal of the drain plug on the left side of the block.  The area is so impacted with years of residue that nothing I shove in there results in any drainage.  What is a good way to approach this problem.

How about a drill bit in the hole? Hold it straight.

Hi Paul, another thing to try is to try and stick a small screwdriver ir pick in to try and loosen up the crud in there,is there any water in the block, you can try a small blowgun with compressed air, give it a couple of shots,it might loosen it up enough to get the flow started, you could also knock out a freeze plug and try poking around there,it will be messy when it starts,so be prepared, this is only a bandaid fix,but might save you from removing the motor for now?,if you get it loose you can try some long stiff wire to loosen up some more further in?. Thanks Guys:   I've done the stiff wire,  the small screwdriver, put 120psi in both sides and more.  BUT, I have not done the Freeze plug drill yet, hadn't thought of it!. Moreover that thread Todd mentioned has a ton of good stuff to try.  I will start tomorrow with renewed vigor and go right down the list (probably leaving the freeze plug drill to last).  Thanks again.  -  Paul  -
