Antenna splitter...anyone?
« on: February 08, 2010, 01:15:09 AM »
Well....I am stumped. Another dead end! I have been searching for months...and not even getting close.

I have been looking for an antenna splitter...one that will allow me to listen to my in-dash stock radio AND/OR my aftermarket unit. It needs to have a female end and two male ends.

I found one with two females and one male, but that simply will not work. It has to have ONE FEMALE END and TWO MALE ENDS.  Why is this impossible to find?

Don't most car enthusiasts install the modern unit in the glove compartment or under the dash, or in the console and leave the stock unit in the dash?

There is a built-in market for ANY company smart enough to make this item!

But I can't find it anywhere. Been googling, checking radio parts stores, car audio shops...anything I can think of...tried googling antenna splitters, antenna adapters, Y cables, you name it...nothing!

Anyone have any ideas?

Hi Steve,

Check out www.ebay.com and have a look at item number 320485107071.

Is this what you are after?

I bought one at Radio Shack.

One wire goes to the original Wonderbar, the other goes to the stereo /CD player in the glove box.

You could make such a thing by wiring together the bare jacks, or perhaps by cutting the cable off a junk yard antenna & splicing it into your antenna cable.  Be aware this cable would rather have as little overall length as possible.  It was fussy enough that the old radios had an antenna trimmer screw, which fine tuned your installed antenna to the radio.  Don't know how this goes with the modern radios.  Bruce Roe CLC # 14630

Ken...close but no cigar! Its the idea I was after, but not RCA jacks.

Forrest...I have 2 radio Shacks in my part of town and they tell me that Radio Shacks no longer stock car audio products.

Bruce...thatks for that tip! I have a trimmer on my car radio too..I'll play with it after I get this set up.

JEFF...you are the MAN! That is EXACTLY what I was looking for. Funny, but even now when I type-in 'antenna splitter' in google, this store doesn't pop up....weird.  How did you find it?  And, yes, I ordered it!

Thanks again for all the replies!

Steve,

Try Googling "car antenna splitter" and that store will come up toward the top of the list.

Glad I could help!
