Greetings all,

On my 67 CdV.  The climate control dial is not illuminated when the headlights are on.  I have replace every bulb in the dash, (quite a feat for those that have not tried it), but I cannot seem to locate the bulb that illuminates this dial.   Any help is appreciated.

Dudley,
If I am not mistaken, the bulb is inserted in the top or the back of the control head itself.

In my 68 Shop manual (page 12-61, item 73) it says there are two "dial bulb sockets", upper and lower, near the wiring and vacuum lines on the unit itself.

Thank you Greg and Steve for your time and response.  I will take advantage of the big snow here in the east and get in some garage time and try the suggestions.

By the way, on MY car (68) all I have to do is remove the cover from under the steering column and I can see the underside of the climate control unit and the bulb is right there...very easy to get to. (That's the bottom one anyway). Good luck with the top one though....

There are two bulbs. Both are #1816. The top one is accessed by removing the dash top cover. The bottom one is accessed by removing the panel just under the steering column. Hope that helps.    -Jim

thanks Jim,

I'll look again

Now Im wishing that I had asked that question before I reinstalled my top dash pad/panel.  At least now I know and I believe I can reach both top and bottom

Dudley

You're welcome. If you'd like to get a shop manual for your '67 you might try Faxon Auto Literature in Riverside, CA. They have a website. I got a re-print from them for my '67 Fleetwood 75. Very high quality reproduction.     -Jim

Hi Dudley,

How hard was it to remove the dash pad/panel?
I am going to have to attack that sooner or later to replace the clock on my 68.

It's pretty easy, just take your time.
First unscrew the 3 screws on the A-pillar moldings. Carefully wiggle them rearward and downward from the top first. This way, you won't scratch the aluminum interior roofrail molding over the doors. Then remove the 6? screws under the front lip of the dash pad. The pad then slides rearward a little, then wiggle it upward and out. Be careful of the AC dash sensor grille as they're brittle and crack when you look at them. I have these too... Tilt your column downward if you have tilt. The there are plugged wires going to the underside courtesy lights, radio speaker(s), sentinel photocell (optional) and AC dash sensor grille. You'll have to unplug those before the pad will be able to be flipped upside down and rest between the tops of the front and rear seats. This is a good safe place for it so it doesn't get scratched, bumped or punctured while it's out.

Steve-O,

Intructions for the dash pad removal could not be better explained then by what Willingtoncad has posted.  Perfect description of what to expect.  It is 4 screws and then two more small ones accessed through the glove box, just inside and up.  Really a pretty easy thing and gives good access to the top of alot of what you cant reach from under.  The clock removal is also no big deal, just a little challenging with the angles to remove it and install it.  The knob to set the clock must come off through the front.  It is just a small allen screw that you will then drop and lose on the dark carpet but keep looking and you will find it again and say "OK  Ill put this in a safe place now".  Once the dashtop panel is removed, you will see/feel the back center of the clock has a little blue plastic cap ontop of a nut.  Remove the cap and uncrew that nut, (this is the nut that hold the blue palstic circut board sheet onto the back of the clock and to power it)  GENTLY move the circut sheet out of the way.  The clock body is being held in place by two more nuts.  One top left and the other bottom right or vice versa.  Once they are removed the clock body can come out.  It is a real puzzle! twist, slide, rotate, slide, tiwst, angle, cuss a little, slide back, twist and so on until you figure it out.  Installation is reverse.  Believe me, you will only really want to replace this clock once so go through the effort to make sure the new one is in good shape.  Once done you will also want to clean the inside windsheild of the face prints where you were straining to see what you where doing w your fingers.    Good luck -  Dudley
