My 89 DeVille has an automatic dimming mirror with compass that I installed several years ago. It worked perfectly for a while and still dims when it is required however, when it is off or in the day time, there is a very noticeable yellow tint to it. I know this works with some kind of fluid of some sort but why is it doing this? Has it seen it's better days? I bought a replacement on ebay and this one has a very slight yellow tint. (I could probably live with that) but this one also has a little fluid bubble spot on the top that stays clear while the rest of the mirror tints at night. What cause this to happen? Anybody with the same experience with this?

I bought a 93 Allante with the autodimming mirror.  It had purple fluid sloshing around in it.

I was told to IMMEDIATELY get it out of the car because if it leaked (which they do) it would stain the seats, console and carpet.

If you can see fluid, get rid of it.

I took it all apart, cleaned out the fluid, and put it back together.  No auto dimming but at least it won't ruin anything.

There are replacements available from the company that bought out Donnelly, the original supplier of these mirrors to GM.  It runs about 100.00 plus your old mirror.

I have a 90 DeVille with a slight yellow tint. It`s been that way for about 10 yrs, & still works, even though it has fallen off the glass several times.
I personally would pull the thing off , toss it , & get a std GM mirror from a Chev, etc, in a junkyard.
