1936 Fleetwood Town Car
« on: February 08, 2010, 07:39:31 PM »
I recently purchased a 1936 Towncar and I am looking for some help.  I need several parts, but I would like to "learn up" on the car.  Is there some good book for Cadillacs in the 1930s?  Can someone recommend a good parts book?

I need to find an airfilter housing, and new interior.  The lights have been replaced with sealed beams and I would like to put them back to the way they were.  I am going to replace all the wiring as it look original and is constantly cracking.  I have attached a couple of pictures.  Someone told me that since the VIN starts with an M it was a commercial car, but I have not found any reference to that.

Any guidance would be meted with a smile.

William

Cool car.

Click on the link in my signature.

There you will find several vendors new interior upholstery (SMS, Jenkins), a couple companies that will make you new wiring harnesses (YNZ,Rhode Island) and assorted sellers that might be able to help you with the headlights and air cleaner.

William,
First I'd like to congratulate you on your purchase.
Allow me to decode the cowl stencil. The M stands for motor#. Cadillac went by motor #'s at that time.  As you suspected , it has NOTHING to do with commercial.  The B stands for body. Your's is #30. The J stands for job. Your #'s are for a towncar. The body # & job # should be on your data plate. The VIN should be on the motor & the frame. Be advised that the frame # will be missing some of the first #'s. That's the way Cadillac did it until 1938.

Just thought people might  be interested to see something I did not realize was with the car.  I found that there is an intercom system within the car.  I have attached pictures of the front and back look like.  Sadly, the hand set it missing.  If any one knows details about this system, I would be very interested.

  That's a beauty.  Is it a V-8 or a V-12?

We!

I would love to know where the component in the second photo was located - above the headliner or within the lining below the rear quarter window? I have only seen one of this component before and it was loose in a box!

Do you have the stainless steel surround and perforated cover to the amplifier above the headliner in the front seat? I have one somewhere.

Regards,
