Decode 1970 Sedan DeVille data plate?
« on: February 28, 2010, 05:17:44 PM »

Hey all,

I checked out a 1970 Sedan DeVille that I'm interested in buying today and here's the info off of the metal tag on the firewall near the driver's corner of the windshield. Most specifically, I'm interested to know what plant this car was built at. Hopefully this is enough info for someone here to decipher that from:

ST 70 68349 FWD72134
14 14 (PAINT)
05CEY M K

Hopefully, this is the correct info. I assume the 68349 is the serial #?

Thanks in advance,
Aaron

ST is style, 70 is 1970, 68349 is a sedan deville, fwd is the fleetwood plant.
The last number is the sequence number. This is not the same as the VIN. That is at the base of the
drivers side windshield. 14 is Patina silver metallic paint.
05C= built 3rd week of May E= EZ eye (tinted) glass, Y= 6 way power seat, M = power door locks , K= climate control

Jeff,

Many thanks for that. Where was the Fleetwood plant located? Was it in downtown Detroit?

Fleetwood Plant was on Fort Street about 3miles from the assembly plant. All bodies were built there and trucked on special trucks to Clark Ave.
