57 cad auto dimmer

The auto dimmer on my 57 cad eldo doesn't work. I took the cover off and the tubes are not showing any filament glow. I can hear the vibrator humming and I measured 500vac but not sure if that is correct. Has anyone looked at their box and can you see the filaments on the tubes glowing when the head lights are on?

There should only be one tube (the amplifier) that would have a glowing filament, this tube should the one at the opposite corner of the vibrator, and the taller tube should be the ballast.

The filament is power by the 12v source, and same source extends over to the ballast tube reducing the voltage at the vibrator. Since your vibrator is operational indicating a voltage from the 12v source, most likely the amplifier tube is bad. Just to validate you will need to test the tube, or you could test the filament pins 4 & 5 for continuity with an ohm meter.

As a related question, is there a switch built in to the circuit somewhere which will disable the Autronic Eye, giving one the option to use only "manual" dimming with the footswitch?  Dave, does your dimming function work okay with the footswitch?
