Hi Everyone:

I just wanted to share the data I've been collecting regarding the remaining 1940 62 series coupes.

Check out the link below if interested.

Was that dual sidemount really an option on #1123? It looks awkward and sits up quite high. It doesn't really look like it was designed to be there.

I don't know if it was factory or not since I haven't seen the build sheet for this car. But when the potential buyer told me about it the first thing I asked was if it had the deluxe heater since it and the passenger side mount conflict. He confirmed it had no heater and no holes cut. While not evidence, at least it isn't a red flag.

The side mounts were an option on Series 62 in 1940.  It was the last year for sidemounts.  Most likely the styling department did not want them since it was a styling cliche from the past.  They were not integrated with the styling.  In "Cadillacs of the Forties" by Roy Schneider there is a picture of a convertible coupe on page 28 (3rd edition).  On page 26 there is a coupe without sidemounts.  It looks so much cleaner.  As Roy points out almost all of the convertible coupes were restored with sidemounts by getting the welled fenders from other cars.  Most were probably built without sidemounts.  In seeing these cars I was never impressed with the look.  I did not realize it was because of the sidemounts.  In 2006 I saw a convertible coupe without sidemounts and it was beautiful.  I got interested then and recently I found one that is a basket case.  Now it is my next restoration project.
