Emergency switch on a 66
« on: March 13, 2010, 09:19:07 AM »
Someone asked me what the emergency/ lock switch is on the door of a 66.   I assume this would be the lockout for the power windows?  Whats the emergency position for?   I dont know that this switch is on the door, I may just be assuming that.  I did not see that car or talk to the owner.  This was just one of those questions that came to be since people know I am a car guy.

TJ,
The "emergency" position on the power window lock/normal switch is intended to allow the windows be operated without the ignition turned on.  Circumstances when this would be desirable are pretty self explanitory.

Thanks for the info.   Interesting feature.   How many years did Cadillac do that?  Any other brands do it?

Cadillac used that feature from 1965 thru '68 that I know of. I've never seen it on any other make.   -Jim

Lincoln used a similar system as early as '64(?) through '68 or '69. Was referred to as the bypass / lock switch .
