Look for the same issues that regular 75-79 Sevilles have.  Have the fuel injection lines looked at for leaks.     But being a Milan roadster, the body was cut in half and a few feet of body removed.   So I'd look for rust and/or signs of problems at the body welds were they put the car back together.

In my opinion, the Milan's are basically stock sevilles with the rear doors hacked off.

If you can find a San Remo, you will pay a lot for it, but it's a beautiful car.  The proportions are fantastic and it's a true coachbuilt car.

Google it and you will see what I mean.

Brian is right.

The Milan looks like a POS made in some jerk's back yard. It began life as a car that was only marginally attractive to begin with and turned into a rolling joke of unharmonious proportions.

The San Remo, on the other hand is a very attractive and well proportioned vehicle. It resembles the RR Corniche of the era.

Can you tell which one is which?

The San Remo would have been nice with the stock tail lights but I guess they wanted it to stand out as different. I think the Milan's look too stubby but I like the ones with the extended noses and side tires, they look better proportioned.

The flashier the better.   Pick a color.

Or maybe a four door...

Personally I prefer the second generation..  the ultimate in tackiness.

IF the car hasn't gotten the maintenance it needs, it could drop a timing chain or have an injector leak fire anytime.  The fuel injection has a poor reputation for reliability: MAP sensors fail, the temperature sensors quit, the idle circuit runs away, and aging fuel pumps can take out the ECU.  Cures for all this have been engineered if you want to deal with it.  Some people just change to a carb.

The 350 engine will get you there, but it doesn't compete with 472 cars.  A 403 will bolt in including the injection, using a 425 Cad ECU.  Add switch pitch to your THM400 and good duals, and you are sure to take a couple seconds off 0-60.    Bruce Roe, EFI 403 '79.

Otto,

You are killing me here with the photos of that black San Remo.  Cadillac should have built it like that.  Gorgeous!

Now I am shopping for one.  My wife will not be happy.

You mean you don't want that red Milan?

That black San Remo is a really good looking car.

When I looked at the photo, I thought it was off a Pontiac Grandville w/Cadillac badges added.  The short WB car does nothing for me, but that's just my bias.

I'm actually diggin'the San Remo! Not so the Milan, it just doesn't look right. But that San Remo is one cool looking car. And I don't mind the tail lights at all. What years did they make it?

Good luck in buying one.
This says they only made 24 of them in 79. Ebay shows pictures of the m to 1980. They sure are purty....

The Milan is disproportioned, the trunk is to long and the doors are to short.  I think they are great looking cars in stock 4-door form.

I can't think of to many cars that look good as both a 2-door and a 4-door.  The 4-door chevelle is a prime example Yuck! http://pic70.picturetrail.com/VOL1788/10551469/19348201/310432108.jpg

On the San Remo it looks like the back end is reminiscent of a 63-65 Riviera, that’s why they didn’t use the wrap around taillights.

I generally favor 2 door cars over 4 door cars myself but there are a lot of cars that still look good in both body styles.

Virtually all the 4 door convertible hard tops of the 50s and 60s look great. It's that center post that messes up the lines of other 4 doors.

I know of only one car today made in the 4 door hardtop style of old. That's the Mercedes 550CLS or something like that of a year or two ago. They make a two door without a post now.

I am the owner of the Milan website and of a 1979 Milan.
The Milan was built as an alternative to the 76-79 Mercedes SL 2 door convertible and the Milan cost around $30,000 new.  San Remos were built to compete with the RR Corniche and cost $45,000-65,000.  There were over 500 Milans sold and numerous Sevilles converted with Milan provided kits. Doubt that more than 50 San Remos were built.  So despite the comments to this post, the Milan outsold the San Remo 10 to 1. Granted that the San Remo was a better built car and had a backseat, but it also cost about twice as much when new.

Feel free to contact me anytime.  Would appreciate comments and corrections to the website sent to me at my email address
