49-Type 48 plugs
« on: April 09, 2005, 06:31:34 PM »

I have a set of type 48 plugs still in the box for my 49s62.
Would they still be good? Would you use them.

Jeff, if your reading this I would like to see those picture again. I deleted them by mistake. Definately a sin.

Art, why not? plugs are not like a rad. hose would be. Nothing to deteriorate. But I would take very fine grit sand-paper and clean the contacts where the wires connect, and it will not hurt to clean and set the gap.
Good luck, Jim

If you try to install spark plugs for a 48 Cadillac in a 49 head, youll play H--l getting them to stay in place. Cadillac had 10 MM threads on their spitzenpluggers from 1939-48, and changed to 14 MM plugs in 1949.

I have a 1949 vintage box of new AC48 spark plugs with coralox insulator that I plan on using-should work just fine.

I bought a set of NOS 48 plugs a couple of years ago and have driven my 49 5000+ miles since then.  The car performs perfectly with them and there have been no problems.  Jay
