1947 rear shocks
« on: April 10, 2005, 02:02:12 PM »
I have checked the casting number on my rear shocks for my model 6107 they are 5313843 R1 and R8. This does not match the part number listed in my motor age. Does anyone know if this is the correct number  or what this may be off of if not correct. I am looking at a replacement set with same casting numbers but R14 and R16.

Thanks,
Craig

Apple Hydraulics has an on-line catalogue that might help you identify the shocks you have and the ones you are looking for.  Sorry I dont have the link handy.

Thanks but I already checked Apple, their number matches the number in the Cadillac service manual but this is not the same numbering, Thanks anyway.

Craig- The only true way to identify the correct shocks for your 47 is to look at the round cap on the end of the body of the shock. For the right rear shock the number stamped there should be 1754 N and left should be 1754 P. The casting number should be 5313843 which will be on the body of the shock, under the casting number it will say Made in Dayton Ohio USA. I have a used set from a 46 which states all the numbers from above plus the R-14 after the casting number for the right shock and R-7 on the left shock. If you find the 1754 N or 1754 P this would be correct for your car. These numbers 1754 N or P were used from 41-47 for all 41 60s,61,41-62,42-60s,61,62,63, 46-60s,61,62 and 47 60s, 61, and 62.Call me if I can help.
