48 Series 75 Grille

I have a 1948 Series 75 Imperial Sedan (Limo)complete with divider window, jump seats, etc. I have most original paperwork, including title & registration. This car has always been titled/registered as a 1948. The original owner was AC Delco in Flint, Michigan from 1948-1952. But, as I check photographs of other 48s, I have noticed that they have the rectangular front end turn lights,while mine has the round turn lights. Is it possible that this was an early 48 and they used the round lights? The serial number falls right in with the 1948s. Does this make a difference as I look for a replacement grille? I have been told that the 47 and 48 Series 75 were largely interchangeable for almost all body parts. I am hesitant to order any grille parts until I am sure. Also, can anyone tell me what other hood hinges are interchangeable with this car? Thanks.

Hi, Your problem is that your car has only turn signals while you have seen photos of cars with the optional fog lamps, which are rectangular. The regularly equipped cars such as yours has a stamped metal insert (I think) with the round turn/park lamps installed in the middle of the insert.

The rectangular lights are the optional fog lamps.  The turn signals were integrated into the fog lamps when this option was installed.  If the car had no fog lamps, the turn signals were in the same location, but they were round with a small plated wing to each side of the light.  The grill is the same regardless of whether your car does or does not have fog lamps.  

You are correct that practically all body parts are the same for the series 75 from 1947 and 1948.  The only differences I can recall are the headlamp rings (painted from 42 through 47, chrome plated on the 48 and 49 series 75) and the medallions on the front of the hood and the deck lid.  Sheet metal from the 1949 series 75 should also interchange with your 48.  Similarly, you could use series 75 sheet metal from as far back as 1941, but you start to run into trim differences.  

The hood hinge is the same on all series 75 cars from 1941 to 1949.
