Cadillacs of any description were "special" to see on a typical public street.   My father was in the outdoor decorating business (flags, banners, etc.), and I have a number of old photographs of street scenes that include a row of stores or a shopping center where his company was working.  Of course, all these scenes include numerous parked cars.   Typically these cars looked nothing like what we see at car shows today -- almost all were dark colored four-door sedans with minimal chrome, blackwall tires, no spotlights, foglights, or fender skirts -- and most were low-priced or lower-medium-priced models.  When a relative or a neighbor drove up in a Cadillac, even the most basic Series 62 sedan, it was a notable occasion.

It really is fun to see these! It does speak to the rarity of Convertibles and Eldorados !

I must have gone through about a thousand pictures on the Philly website, using keywords, cars and parking lots, and got quite a few pictures with cars in them, but not many Cadillacs.  Most interesting to me were some of the old gas stations, such as this one.  It must have been wonderful working with an outdoor lift!

Richard, being a "Philly Boy" I am sure you recognized most of the locations that I posted.  Just like you said the apperance of a Cadillac was a really notable occasion.  I guess I should have tried searching for pictures on the "Main Line" to get more pictures of Cadillacs.

Thanks--It stayed around until 1960 when it was T-Boned by a '52 Chevrolet who ran a stopsign. Luckily, it was hit on the passenger's side, and my Dad was not hurt. Bought a '60 Fleetwood to replace it. Will be posting more of these when I can get them scanned ! The '57 was a great car--had factory AC and Auto Dimmer.

Quentin,Are you in the photo OR just showing the lady where to park? Trivia time.  Does anyone out in readship-land know why GOD made time? While you are at it, I'll swap my age and experance for anybodys youth and inexperance, provided the person is age 55 and under. I've had one young man take- me up on the offer, but couldn't preform.  One-catch being the person willing to swap, must carry-out the necessary actions to complete the swap. Thanks ,Quentin, for the well wishes for"A Happy New Year" to everone and the same to all "Down Under". Good Luck,JIM
