Happy New Year to all of our members!
Listen, as you read this article, the Arizona Concours d’Elegance for 2017 is being held in Phoenix, Ariz.
Why is this important? Let me tell you why. We are one year away from being the epicenter of the event. In January 2018, at the Arizona Biltmore Resort in Phoenix, the Arizona Concours d’Elegance will feature 1930 through 1940 V-12 and V-16 Cadillacs, all body styles. They are also in search of the Saoutchik-bodied Cadillacs of the ’40s.
And if that isn’t enough, we want any and all Cadillac and LaSalle cars that are believed to be concours quality to enter this prestigious event to represent the Cadillac & LaSalle Club.
This event will enter its fifth year, with the CLC being on the front page. This event marks the kickoff to automotive auction week in Arizona. The event’s primary focus beyond cars is to help children’s wishes come true through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Get involved, help the children and enjoy yourself in 2018. There is no entry fee, submittal is electronic, and there will be more to follow as it becomes available. See you there.
Our Club is doing well. We have been focused on changes that will benefit you as a valued member. We will be giving you opportunities, and it will be your responsibility to enjoy those opportunities. If you do not, then you are not handling your end of the log.
We will be traveling into your back yards, to places we never ever considered before, to produce Grand National meets, events and tours. I must admit this is going to be really big, so, as always, get involved to make these opportunities successful.
Winter vs. Summer. I just read my copy of Finz, the official newsletter of the New Zealand International Affiliate. I realized that the seasons vary based on where you are relative to the equator. Also, consider that it may be an issue whether you live east or west of the Mississippi River. Being east of the Ole Miss. River, from Pittsburgh, January is just a terrible time of year. Now, living in Phoenix, the winter is wonderful, the summer is barely survivable.
So, what shall we do? I got a great idea. Work on your car, and here is how. Contact the CLC Office or Chief Judge Bill Anderson and order an Authenticity Manual. The purpose of the Authenticity Manual is to document as much as possible the details of how Cadillac and LaSalle automobiles actually looked when they left the factory and were delivered by the dealer.
If you look in your copy of the International Membership Directory, you will find a comprehensive list of Club Technicians. Me, I just call my guy, it’s broken, fix it, but I do have a book to refer to.
These old cars…it is always something. So, there you have it, during the off-season, you can fix it, another opportunity brought to you by your Club.
If that isn’t enough, another opportunity—the Club Store for official apparel. I have heard the women are crazy about a “sharp-dressed man.” So, look good, feel good, and do good in your well-maintained Cadillac or LaSalle.
New positions and vacancies filled: Dan Cress, Grand National treasurer; and Chuck Swanson, VP of Information Technology. Thanks to all for your involvement.
Don’t forget Valentine’s Day.
